Short biography

Jovana Petrovska (she/her) is a macedonian dancer and dance mediator, who graduated her studies at the Center for Contemporary Dance in Cologne, Germany. Before her studies she had a ballet education, starting at age of 7 in her hometown Skopje, Northmacedonia and following she achieved a high school degree in classical ballet.

Recently as a part of her studies, Jovana danced in projects from choreographers such as Rafaele Giovanola and Sade Mamedova. As well as creating her own solo "...wo ich noch nie war..." (...where I´ve never been...") mentored by Patricia Carolin Mai. As a following step of her creation process, she is now interweaving the concepts from her solo with teaching methods. She is mediating her joy for dance not only through performing but as well through teaching. Her interest lies in the connection of body language and traditional dances with contemporary dance. As an example for this, she created her Bachelor work named "ПОТЕКЛО" (Origin) and presented it on 11th July 2023 at CCD. In the beginning of her studies Jovana attended a workshop with Wiliam Forsythe at the Museum Folkwang. Since she moved to Germany, Jovana joined many photoshooting series as well as dance video projects.

Recently Jovana became actively a maiskind member, facilitator and performerx whithin the maiskind enchanting transdisciplinary community where diversity flourishes, queerness empowers and ancestral inspired rituals come alive. 

 

Her recent choreographic work "Your thoughts are not my words. Your words are not my thoughts." is a duo piece, created together with Lea Mühle, where both of them are as well performing within. The creation process started in March 2024 and premiered on the 1st of June 2024 at the "Credance Dance" Festival at the National Opera and Ballet in Skopje, North Macedonia.
